Stevens-Johnson
Syndrome Recent studies link Bextra to a potentially
deadly skin reaction called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. Nearly 90 reported Stevens-Johnson
Syndrome cases along with other serious skin reactions have been reported; 36
of those patients were hospitalized and four died. Stevens-Johnson Syndrome
is joined as serious side effects by an increase in heart attacks and strokes
that are all linked to Bextra. Stevens-Johnson Syndrome is a severe allergic reaction
to certain drugs. A rare but serious condition, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome
causes sores on the mucous membranes of the mouth, eyelids, nose and genital area.
A widespread skin rash of irregularly shaped, purple-colored red spots also develops
with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. Other drugsin addition to Bextra known to
cause Stevens-Johnson syndrome include: - Carbamazepine
- Phenytoin
- Dilantin Infatabs, Dilantin Kapseals or Dilantin 125
- Phenobarbital
- Solfoton
- Sulfonamides - Bactrim, Cotrim, Septraor Sulfamethoprim
Symptoms
of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome include: - Headache
- Runny nose (rhinitis)

Cough
- Sore throat
- Fever
- A general feeling of illness
(malaise)
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Skin rash beginning on
the face and neck area
- Mucous membrane sores in mouth and eyelids
